Councilman Gives Special Recognition to Men Who Take on the Role of “Father Figure”

Upper Marlboro, MD – Today, County Councilman Mel Franklin (D-District 9) issued the following special Father’s Day statement:

“As Father’s Day 2017 comes to a close, I give thanks to all of the men across our nation who are providing an outstanding example of fatherhood to their children.  I also want to give special recognition to the countless numbers of men across our county and our country who have stepped into the role of “father” for a child whose actual father is not present.  These men may be grandfathers, uncles, siblings, cousins, family-friends, or just dedicated mentors.  Regardless of their formal relationship, they are the ‘fathers’ in the lives of millions of boys and girls throughout our communities.  These unsung heroes have stepped up to fill an incredible void and are ‘life-changers’ for families across our land.  Let us not take their selflessness for granted, for they are performing this invaluable responsibility out of the love in their hearts and the spirit in their souls.  To these incredible men and to all of our great fathers around the world, I wish you a very special, Happy Father’s Day.”
