Council Stresses Attracting Economic Investment at Economic Development Corp. Open House

“We want people from around the world to want to relocate to Prince George’s County,” Prince George’s County Council Chairman Mel Franklin (D) said. “To live here, to invest here [and] to help us create more economic destinations here so that we can grow our local wealth and opportunity for … the kind of communities we’re trying to build in the county.”

SoMD News: Prince George’s County Economic Development Corp. holds first open house for County Council Appreciation Day

As the home to more than 900,000 residents, Prince George’s County is the second-largest county in Maryland and boasts an impressive ranking as the nation’s wealthiest majority African-American jurisdiction, according to The Washington Post.

Ironically, the most affluent black county in America suffered a staggering loss of wealth after the 2008 foreclosure crisis which derailed hopes of attracting new residents.

But now that the crisis has reversed since late 2013 with 3,700 new residents moving into the area, Prince George’s is on a fresh path to becoming a more vibrant and prosperous place not just for people in Maryland, but all around the world as well.
